What can I cook on a Kamado Chef?
Grilling, searing, low-and-slow smoking, roasting and baking, even pizza and bread. One ceramic grill covers every technique, from a gentle 80°C up to a 400°C sear.
How long does one load of charcoal last?
The thick ceramic holds heat with very little fuel. A single load of quality lump charcoal can run 12+ hours at low-and-slow temperatures, so long overnight smokes are no problem.
Can I use it all year round, even in winter?
Yes. The ceramic body insulates so well that the outside temperature barely affects performance, so it cooks just as reliably in winter as in summer.
How do I control the temperature?
With the top and bottom air vents: more air means more heat. Thanks to the ceramic mass the temperature is very stable and easy to hold steady for hours.
What is the difference between the 13, 19 and 22 sizes?
Mainly cooking surface and capacity: the 13 suits 2-4 people, the 19 is the all-rounder for 4-10, and the 22 handles 8-20. The same ceramic quality runs through the whole range.
Is it difficult to clean and maintain?
Very little upkeep. Every so often you burn off residue at high heat and empty the ash; the ceramic essentially self-cleans at high temperature.
Why ceramic instead of steel?
Ceramic retains heat and moisture far better than steel, giving juicier results, rock-steady temperatures and excellent fuel efficiency. This is the heart of the kamado design.
